Record Store Day 2012

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This is my first post about Record Store Day 2012. As the news begins to trickle in about what to expect on April 21st, I am sure you can expect more posts to fill this blog with all the exciting news and release that will be available on this, the fifth annual Record Store Day.

This year's celebrity ambassador is New York punk icon Iggy Pop, and if last years ambassador Prince of Darkness (and all around good guy) Ozzy Osborne was any indication we can expect some amazing reissues of classic Iggy & The Stooges releases such as "Raw Power" and possibly 45rpm single for "The Passenger"

No real news except the Secret 7" releases for the likes of Dj Shadow, Florence + The Machine, and The cure. Also, David Bowie's re-release of the "Starman" 45 is something that I am personally very anxious to see, as the cover art and details surrounding this release are being kept under wraps until the official announcements of what to expect begin to pour in.

There are also rumors of more Smashing Pumpkins (aka Billy Corgan and Friends) reissues such as "Pisces Iscariot" and the classic double album "Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness" both of which have been confirmedfor release this year, via front man Billy Corgan's in a recent interview with Adam Graham, although the later will probably not be ready for an April 21st unveiling.

All in all, this years RSD is shaping up to be one to remember. So, I would like to pose a question. What is one album you would be interested in seeing reissued for Record Store Day?

Hello Everyone! I am starting this blog with the intention to create a comprehensive guide to collecting vinyl records in an age of digital media. I have chosen this topic because it is close to my heart. I have been collecting records for some time now, and I find it to be an effective way to get a lot of great music (as long as you have the space to store it all).

I went through a cd phase, and an mp3 phase, but I found both of those mediums to be less than interesting. I no longer have any interest in compact discs and my interest in digital music is limited to using my turntable to "rip" my records so that I can listen to them in my car.

It realy is an amazing time to get involved with collecting vinyl. There are plenty of good deals to be found in dollar bins and thrift stores, and the market in general is heating up with more albums being release or reissued on vinyl. Another great thing about record collecting is the rich warm tone that only analog sound waves can deliver, as well as the huge album art and even digital download cards that are being packaged with many newer records.

So with all that said, I will seek out the coolest records and audio recording, and boldly go (to the record store) to find out what is new and interesting in the world of vinyl records.
