I can honestly say that I am excited to see how far this blog will go and the contributions that will go into it. I know that once I really start digging into all of the events, programs, activities and programs for black students that seem hidden as of now, there will be too many to attend all. So my personal challenge will be to attend as many as possible but my challenge to you guys will be to attend some as well. I think that the more people attend these events, activities ect now there will be more in the future.
One event that I've attended so far was the general meeting for BSL (the Black Student League) on Sept. 14. As a member of BSL, I am obligated to attend all of our general meetings and events, but I want to share those events with all of you. This meeting in particular was just an informal meeting, sort of a "who is BSL?" kind of meeting. I was happy to see people come out and ask questions about who we are and what we do. The next meeting will be October 5th at 7 p.m. in the Noltin Room in the HUB. Another event I attended was the Multicultural event on September 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Not as many people came as I would have liked but then again I don't think a lot of people knew about it. Just about all of the minority organizations on the campus set up tables and poster boards with informational brochures and the like. This event was created to show new minority students at IUP what organizations are available to them and which would be a fit for them. I hope that this blog will help advertise those events and more minority students will attend them because if people don't show up, what's the point of having them around? It's time to get informed
