"The medium, or process, of our time" according to McLuhan is basically the electronic world in which we live. Each piece of technology that we use to do everyday functions. These things include cellphones, computers, gps, etc.. These items have affected our social lives, our educational lives, and our family lives - even our jobs are affected by technology advances. As McLuhan has said, we have become more involved in each others lives and may even be a little more responsible - examples would be facebook, myspace, and twitter. Jobs have been altered by computers - no longer are typewriters needed, some factories are largely controlled by computers instead of humans putting together the product. Families have changed because there is less face to face communication between kids and the parents or even extended family. Everything goes through a computer and the interenet.We one day could be socially awkward because of less human exposure - whether good or bad.

I agree with your thought. We are so involved in technology today that it becomes increasingly harder to talk to people face to face. I even find it hard sometimes to express myself when talking about certain things with people. It is becoming much easier to express thoughts and feelings through text.
I do feel like our lives revolve around these technical things. Although, I think what Mcluhan is trying to say here is that we are progressing every day. The 'process' means the rapid growth and development of our world. I do not think he is talking about our physical objects, but rather our improvement on these objects.
I think that your thoughts about the future could and probably will happen. I see some people already becoming socially disabled thanks to all the advances in technology. Face to face socialization is no longer needed.
